In this work, De Luis expresses the curiosity and uneasiness that the concept of death arouses in him, in his case greatly influenced by the Catholic education he received and his profession of medicine.
However, death is represented in the painting as a process of metamorphosis, which is why he chose as the main character the angel of transformation, whose face bears butterflies symbolizing, as in the rest of his works, the process of change. The idea of the angel came from the series American Horror Story, in which the angel of death appears in scenes that contrast the gore with its beauty and candor. The peephole, in turn, symbolizes the morbid fascination with death in society.
