The painting is titled after the book of which it was to be the cover. The protagonist of the image leads a double life; a renowned architect with a spotless reputation in the eyes of the gallery with a hidden side, that of a degenerate alcoholic, which can be seen in the details of the figure, such as the open fly, the excessive redness of the cheeks and the symbolism of the yellow scarf, which refers to urophilia (golden rain).
